Created in 2009, Mercurio Pallia Logistics (MPL), is a 50:50 joint venture between Gruppo Mercurio SPA (GM SPA) of Italy and Pallia Transport Co.Pvt. Ltd. (PTC) of India. In May 2011, 70% of GM SPA was in turn acquired by the GEFCO Group, the worldwide automotive logistics provider, with global turnover of 3.5 billion Euro, 11000 employees and annually distributing over 2.5 million cars worldwide.
Since its inception, Mercurio Pallia has advanced rapidly, with increasing volumes, a pan Indian presence, a widening portfolio of clients and plans to grow further in the expanding automotive logistics market of India. A notable feature of this expansion has been the steady investment in driver training and quality standards. Future services planned in India include multi-user stockyard facilities, PDI centres, and Multi-Modal transportation. A trailer fabrication unit has been setup through a new 100% subsidiary company, Mercurio Pallia Autoworks building trailers for its own rapid growth, as well as for markets in India and abroad. MPL has also developed new method of transportation for the movement new trucks in road carriers and recently signed a MOU with Freightstar (ETA Group) for rail logistics, to start in the second quarter of 2012.
